Canosa, located on the edge of the Murge plateau, dominates the Ofanto valley and the Tavoliere delle Puglie plain. The land on which the city was built is predominantly clayey and this allowed the easy underground construction of numerous artificial caves and the adaptation of the pre-existing cellars. It is considered one of the main archaeologist centers of Puglia, the Archaeological Civic Museum is located in the eighteenth century Palazzo Casieri.
Main monuments are the Cathedral of San Sabino, the Mausoleum of Boemondo, the Temple of Jupiter Toro, the Arch of Trajan and the Roman Bridge on the Ofanto which allowed the passage of the Via Traiana from one side to the other of the river. To visit the Museum of Rural Life set up in an old oven near the Castle.
